Bob’s Burgers is a mainstay of animated comedy, and most people agree it’s surpassed even The Simpsons by this point.
HBO seems to agree, and they’ve signed on two of the principal voice actors to develop a new live-action comedy series for the cable channel.
Edison will feature the misadventures of a real estate broker who wants to live in New York, but can’t seem to escape Edison, NJ. It’s a mundane premise, but ripe for absurdity. That’s the sort of thing that made Bob’s Burgers such a big success.
John Roberts is set to star in the series. Roberts plays Linda Belcher on Bob’s Burgers, and it’s probably a pleasant change to play a man again.
- Jon Benjamin, the voice of Bob Belcher, is co-writing the show with Roberts. Benjamin has been kicking around “alt-comedy” for years, until he hit it big with both Bob’s Burgers and Archer.
The show is a production of Paper Kite, the production company owned by Amy Poehler. Poehler, of course, is already one of the biggest names in TV comedy. Anything she touches usually turns to gold, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see a few guest appearances from her as well.
