Musical maven, Disney wunderkind, and soon-to-be EGOT Lin-Manuel Miranda gave a short but sweet interview to The Hollywood Reporter a few days ago. He’s eternally self-deprecating, pointing out that he “can’t sing well enough to be the Man of La Mancha“. Miranda gets by on talent, guts, and attitude, and it’s certainly worked for him so far.
The THR interview was part of their series “Fishing for Answers”, in which the subject pulls question cards out of a fishbowl and answers them as best they can.
As you’d expect, he didn’t give any earthshattering news, like details on his new project for Disney, but it’s an entertaining watch.
In case you’re more of the reading type, here are the highlights.
Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Favorite Song from The Little Mermaid
“Under the Sea”, a predictable but entirely valid choice. Darling it’s better, down where it’s wetter, as he says.
Best Thing About the New Mary Poppins
He’s excited to dance with Emily Blunt. Works for me!
A Little Insight About Lin’s Favorite Actors
He name drops quite a few people in the course of the segment.
- Emily Blunt
- Viggo Mortensen
- Billy Crystal
- Jack Palance
Any and all of these could easily show up as voice actors in his future animated productions. Maybe not Jack Palance.
Favorite Movies Musicals?
The Band Wagon and Singin’ in the Rain. Nothing wrong with a little Fred and Ginger, a little Gene and Debbie.
Go watch the interview for yourself. It’s only 90 seconds long! We do technically get one bit of info about the new Mary Poppins at the very end. Lin-Manuel Miranda’s character, it seems, is British. Spoiler alert.
