One aspect of being a voice actor that’s both a blessing and a curse is that they’re not easily recognizable. You could have a whole conversation with the voice of one of your favorite characters, and not even realize it.
That’s exactly what happened to a kid selling cookies for a school fundraiser. He bumped into Nancy Cartwright, the voice of Bart Simpson since the 1989 debut of The Simpsons.
After Nancy grills him on what he’s selling and why, she busts out the Bart voice. The kid is nonplussed at first, telling Nancy “that’s a really good impression”, but as she keeps it up, he eventually gets it.
Nancy buys 10 boxes of cookies to help him out, then drives off. Then she immediately drives back to give him an autograph.
As Nancy puts it, she doesn’t know who’s more excited: the kid or herself. After all, voice actors really don’t get recognized much. She likely doesn’t get the “star struck fan” treatment too often.
The kid is a champ through all this. He’s exceedingly polite, doesn’t lose his cool, and never comes off as anything other than a goofy fan who’s delighted to meet one of his favorite cartoon voices.

Nancy had a camera on hand, so it seems like she might have been looking for this sort of encounter. It paid off, though, and the video is just plain fun to watch.
Check out the kid’s expression when he finally realizes that, no, this lady doesn’t just have a “really good impression” of Bart!
The Simpsons is wrapping up its 28th season and shows no signs of slowing down. Nancy Cartwright has played Bart throughout the show’s run, as well as appearing in other animated series like American Dad! And The 7D.
